The University of Michigan Physics Department has a 150 year tradition of leadership in physics research that has spanned the birth and development of modern physics and the evolution of our field into the 21st century. Core groups of faculty pursue research in basic and applied research, biophysics and complexity with state-of-the-art laboratory and information-technology facilities. Connections across disciplines have fostered collaborations with Medical Center and College of Engineering Faculty and with researchers at institutions across the nation and around the world. There are abundant opportunities for graduate research in our core research areas and avid participation of undergraduates in faculty research groups.
